Good Day Readers,

This is Marc Turner with info on the Low Points in the Job Market

ATLANTA – Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed sounded off Wednesday about the city’s financial position and the firing of nearly 100 employees. Reed said cost cutting and the need to hire additional police officers are two of the reasons why city employees from the general work force were laid off.

The employees learned they were being let go Tuesday. One hundred workers were terminated in what is only a first round of layoffs.

According to city officials, a total of 300 workers may be let go before the end of the cuts. Another 48 workers may transition.
Tuesday’s layoffs do not include cuts that will be made in public works as well as more than 200 jail employees slated to be cut once the city transfers that facility to Fulton County.
